Horse lessons
Posted On 01/26/2010 11:05:55

Well, its been AGES since I wrote a blog, so I figured that everyone would want to hear from me again, lol!

SO, we have these really nice neighbors, and they happen to have horses and and a couple mules! The boys LOVE driving down our driveway, and pointing them out and their colors, etc.

Well, the other day, it had been raining the WHOLE week, and we were all getting a little cabin fever, when there came a knock on our back door (note: in the south, people NEVER use the front door). It was our neighbor, Debbie! She is so sweet, and I love talking to her and hanging out with her :) But anyhow, she came to ask if she could take one of the boys to feed the horses with her! The whole family rides around the properties on these ATV/pimped-out-golf cart/things...so Jason was excited at the prospect of getting out of the house, feeding horses, AND riding on that cool car thing, lol!

They were gone for awhile, and when Jason came back, OH he was overjoyed! Aparently he had gone to Debbie's house where she treated him to a cookie with milk, after they had fed the horses. He had been a little scared to approach the horses, so Debbie promised him then that she would let him try "tomorrow" and see if he was a little braver :)

So, it has started a tradition now! A couple times a week, Debbie comes and picks Jason up, and takes him to help her feed the horses, and then they go to her house to have a cookie :) Yesterday I was talking to her, cause she had been out of town for a few days and came to catch up, and I asked if she might consider giving Jason little riding lessons on the horses once they get their "winter greenness" worked out of them ("green" is when a horse either hasn't been riden in awhile, or hasn't been broken in well enough). She was really excited about it, and said that would be great!

So, even though our farm currently doesn't contain horses, at least the boys will be getting exposure to the horses and learning how to handle them, so when they are older, they can ride their horses out to round up the cattle with Dad :D

CONNECTED...FINALLY!
Posted On 01/22/2009 21:47:46

Well, its been a long time in the coming, but we FINALLY have internet! I love clearwire. We also have a phone line (Thanks to MagicJack), but right now it is still in process so we can call out, but can't recieve calls for a few hours.

I'll give crucial parties our number when I can ;)

Anyhow, I can now actually participate in this site! Woo-hoo! I have so many videos and pictures, and I am suffering from a chronic "Lackagracie-itus", so having any adult interaction will be a plus for me, as I am now only surrounded by toddlers.

Life is good, and God is great!

Another Baby
Posted On 10/29/2008 14:23:08

Well, We just found out last week that we are expecting a new addition to our family!! Baby Hawkins #3 is expected to arrive around July 2nd, 2009. I am almost 5 weeks along.

This is such a blessing to us, and a wonderful answer to prayer! Jason is so excited, and EVERY single morning, the first thing he does, is come to my bed, and look at my belly, and say, "I love the baby in your tummy, Mommy." with a smile on his face. It is the sweetest thing!

Tyler on the other hand, has another thing coming to him! My spoiled little boy is gonna have a shock when mommy can't do all she used to, and what things in life will change when baby is born :)

Tyler's Birthday
Posted On 10/17/2008 16:36:11

Well, Tyler had himself a spoiled little day! We baked all day, and then that evening we set everything up. It was an intimate little party with our close friends, since not alot of people could come.

Tyler got SO many gifts though, and Jason got a couple too...although he was much more interested in Tyler's for sure! I think he opened about 10 of them, and Tyler opened about 3. Hee hee! :)

Jonathan, Alex, & Benjamin, made a campfire in our backyard, and Tyler fell asleep. It was pretty funny! We had to wake him up just to eat his cake, and open presents.

Again, I must say, my children disappoint me...

TYLER HARDLY TOUCHED THE CAKE!! What a dainty little boy he was..he touched the frosting with all 10 fingers, and then looked at his hands disgustedly, and started trying to shake the frosting off!! He wouldn't have anything more to do with the thing after that. So sad...

But, it was a good laugh at least :) Poor Greg got sprayed with frosting from Tyler...that was funny too! All's well that ends well, I suppose :) It was a fun party, and the desserts were so good! (Brownies, White Cake, Apple Pies, and Ice cream).

Tyler got lots of clothes, bubbles, coloring books and crayons, a slinky, cars, pull-toys (a doggie and a telephone), a HUGE set of wooden alphabet blocks, and some other dollar-store toys from mommy and daddy :)

How things are going..
Posted On 10/13/2008 12:56:41

Well, things are going good with us! We just got our hot water turned on (whoo-hoo!), so no more "drawing a bath" with the large pot of boiled water...I shall be somewhat sad though, to see that over. We'll do it sometimes still for fun though, I'm sure ;)

Some sweet friends brought us a microwave last night, so we have a microwave!

Today is Tyler's birthday, and we are having a big party at our house! Its our first official night of entertaining in our home! I am pretty excited. Plus, Tyler's cake is looking delicious, and we made some apple pies from Jonathan's aunts apples (we visited them over the weekend).

I'll let ya'll know what Tyler gets for his birthday, but I imagine some new clothes, bubbles, and a couple toy motorcycles will be on the list ;)

My Knights in Shining armor...
Posted On 06/15/2008 21:09:09

Let me start by saying:

Don't EVER turn olive oil on high, and leave it for 1 minute...you will burn down the house.

Now the story:

I was almost done cutting up the beef for my beef stew, and I poured olive oil in my pot, and turned it on high so I could brown the beef before adding all the other ingredients. I walked over to my cutting board, chopped about 3 pieces of meat, then I heard this big "WHOOOOOSH", and saw a ball of fire furl out from my pot and flames almost reaching the ceiling. I called for Jonathan who was outside with the kids and my cousin Micah, and Micah said, "Uh, Jon there's a fire", so he ran in, meanwhile black smoke has enveloped my kitchen, and I was sitting there stupidly and helplessly watching the flames. Jon grabbed the pot and took it outside, and Micah grabbed a shirt to start fanning the smoke out of the house. I got a pan to put over the pot to kill the fire (which flames are still 3 feet high in).

After I got a fan to put in the kitchen to relieve Micah (Who was airing out my kitchen for 10 minutes), I started despairing about my burnt pot! I had sold almost all my extra kitchen things since we are moving, and now I couldn't make my beef stew, let alone anything else with this pot in the future. Hearing my disappointment, my cousin Micah said "Aw, Heather its ok, this is stainless steel...it'll be fine, I'll show you. If it was teflon, it'd be a goner". He got the sponge, a pitcher, and proceeded to "show me" by scrubbing the pot outside in the pathway, while Jon watched the kids, and I kept chopping veggies and meat. I came out, to him scrubbing the black tar from the pot, with gravel, which Jason was more than happy to help him put in :)

He almost got it all off, which I was very impressed with :) Yes, my knights in shining armor saved the day :) Jonny by watching the kids for me, and Micah by saving my pot from the black tar.

The stew ended up being great, by the way! :)

"The Dishwasher" Story
Posted On 03/13/2008 15:58:33
Today, was the day. That inevitable day that every parent goes through. The day your child discovers the word "Why?".

Since we are still fully in the "No." phase, this wasn’t much of a welcome sight (comical as it was.)

I was filling the dishwasher. I had been trying to watch my temper with him lately, as he seems to do the most frustrating things. He started climbing onto the dishwasher for the first time, so I asked calmly, "Jason, please get off the dishwasher?". He got off, and with his big blue questioning eyes, and dumb-founded look (TOTALLY done on-purpose), he shrugged and said calmly back "But, WHY mommy??"
