If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
(John 8:36)
Do you still find yourself behaving in old destructive ways? Are you having trouble in relationships because you can't seem to get it right? Do you have a destructive habit that seems too strong for you to break free of? Something else bothering you, continually? Then today's reading probably contains the answer for you.
Look at verse 31. "If ye CONTINUE in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed." (Emphasis mine.) If you have not been continuing your daily Bible reading, you probably already know the answer from Jesus' words in verse 31. Continue doesn't mean sporadic or occasional reading. That means you are not really following Jesus as a disciple. And, the converse is also true, as stated from Jesus' own lips.
Read verse 32. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." So. Do you want to be free? "Continue," in His word. BE His disciple! Know the truth! And BE MADE FREE! Don't be surprised if complete freedom takes a little time. Your enemy hasn't bound you up in that habit in just a minute. It may take considerable understanding of the "truth," before you get free. But, if you stay the course and continue daily in the truth of the Word of God, one day you will just know you are finally free! And, that is a good day indeed!
Lord, Jesus, thank You for Your word, that IS the truth that stands against all lies (even situation ethics), and that sets us free!
